Turkey Day Roundtable, hashtag #Thanksgiving. America.

What in the hell kind of food and sports blog would this be if we didn't talk about Thanksgiving? It's one of the quintessential holidays that combines food and sports, specifically turkey and football. It doesn't get a whole lot better than that.

Thanksgiving is an American staple. It is America. Nevermind the backstory with the Pilgrims and the Indians and who did what and where. It is a celebration of freedom and utilizing that freedom to its fullest by filling our stomachs to the fullest.

With that in mind, @jwmillion (JM) and myself @weltmoney (JW) have decided to give you a little taste (pun intended) of our thoughts on Thanksgiving. We held a little roundtable and have saved a place at the table for you. Enjoy.

1) Describe your dream turkey.
JM: There is no doubt my dream fowl is deep-fried. Injected with a generous amount of garlic butter and delicately rubbed with my special mix of spices and herbs. I like it fried to the point I get a crunch from the skin but everything else melts in my mouth.

JW: My dream turkey is fulfilling its ultimate purpose, after living a long, meaningful life. It is a deep-fried, cajun turkey surrounded by all of its friends at the Thanksgiving table. It is both firm, but moist and occasionally it is blanketed in a delicious gravy.

2) If you were putting together a basketball starting lineup of Thanksgiving dishes and Turkey was your Center, what dishes would complete your rotation?
JM:
C - Turkey
PF - Roasted Brussel Sprouts and Carrots with Bacon
SF - Oyster Casserole
SG - Stuffing
PG - Sister Schubert Rolls

JW:
C - Turkey
PF - Stuffing
SF - Squash Casserole
SG - Sweet Potato Casserole
PG - Cranberry Sauce

3) Besides Turkey, which dish is your MVP?
JM: Stuffing. And not the boxed stuffing. I'm talking made from scratch, Grandma's stuffing. You can feel the love when you eat it.
JW: Sweet Potato Casserole

4) Which is your sleeper?
JM: Sister Schubert Rolls. They are often overlooked and under appreciated but 9 times out of 10 you'll find someone ending their meal spooning up the gravy and sauces with a roll.
JW: Cranberry sauce. Everyone gives it a bad rap, but I love it.

5) Which number will be higher? Number of beers consumed or number of hours spent napping?
JM: Number of beers. I have always been worried with the amount of food I consume an innocent nap would set me back all day. I rally through with beer after my first meal.
JW: Tricky question. I would say the number of beers consumed, but there's a slight possibility that the nap I take would drag on into actual sleep and I might not wake up till Black Friday morning.

Picking winners for the three NFL games on Thanksgiving:

Packers @ Lions 12:30 ET on Fox
JM: Packers 30 Lions 24
JW: Lions 31 Packers 23

Raiders @ Cowboys 4:30 ET on CBS
JM: Cowboys 28 Raiders 17
JW: Cowboys 24 Raiders 17

Steelers @ Ravens 8:30 ET on NBC
JM: Steelers 14 Ravens 13
JW: Steelers 17 Ravens 13

And one college football game:

Ole Miss @ Mississippi St 7:30 ET on ESPN
JM: Ole Miss 44 Miss St 21
JW: Ole Miss 27 Miss St 20

Pick one player who will be the awesomest that day besides Calvin Johnson because that's a given:
Player of the Day
JM: Mason Crosby. 3 FG's, 1 Fake FG for a TD, and 3 PATS
JW: Dez Bryant goes for 11 catches, 128 yards, 2 TD

happy eating.
